The first area to address on the inner wing was the suspension mount double skin plate - this was totally rotten,
and having had a good look at the area with the inner wing removed, I decided to replace it with a larger plate,
to fill in the gap between the bulkhead/scuttle and the subframe top mount pillar area - the area marked out in
white in the picture below:
My aim was to both add in some more strength to compensate for the removed sections of the front wing and to double
skin the area that the subframe brace bars attach to - it might add a but of weight, but more strength can only be a
good thing in this area (as far as I can tell).
I just marked out the proposed panel by holding a section of 1.0mm thick sheet steel up against the existing plate
and bulkhead, drawing round the panels with a permanent marker (see the image right) and then cutting the patch out
with a jigsaw.
